Guess I am in good company...

I am in the first third of the book The Search by John Battelle. Out of curiosity, this morning, I went to the Amazon site to see what some of the reviewers had to say. Over all, good reviews and lots of *stars* but this one review made me laugh.

Loved the book--great sweep across the subject but it is full of spelling mistakes "Schimdt" is unforgivable & causal for casual?

Really sloppy proof reading.....


It does surprise me that in the days of word processing and spell ck that what is obviously a typo, rather than an actual spelling error...'causal for casual'....was not caught by some software along the way.
But it is somewhat reassuring to think that lack of spelling skills might just put me in good company. Recently,I had begun to wonder if I should order an eight grade spelling book and make flash cards, etc.. and see if I could work my way up from there. Nah...only so many hours in a day. Spelling will just have to remain a non-skill for me.

Lately it seems I am getting worse than ever, not remembering the spelling of words I once knew. I suppose new stuff has pushed that knowledge out the backdoor as it entered.

some of us are old enough to know about ee cummings, right? let's just consider it artistic. i find myself wanting to type phonetically, like "won" for "one", at least for the initial consonant sound (or maybe it's all subliminal from the lottery advertising). i've gotten to where i don't care about s's v. z's since this can be an american/british difference. i won the 6th grade spelling bee in my school, so used to be able to spell, but cannot abide the modern-day spelling bees. in the real world, there's a balance of timeliness and accuracy, and with the internet, timeliness is getting more & more important. but then we techies know that! oh well, just a little rambling!

I photographed this small weeping shrub in Pensacola in a front yard. The purple flowers and orange berries were present at the same time on this georgous plant. The same yard had some of the same species but with white flowers that were not nearly as vibrant. It looked great in spite of a very dry summer and it is planted close to salt water. Color Change Paint Job

I spotted another car with one of those awesome paint jobs that change colors are you drive past. I used to see one with a different set of hues parked in from of a local vinyl liner pool company here in Gulf Shores. This is what I'd like on my VW Thing, but I want coral and peach shades so it look like a woman's fingernail polish rack at the nail salon. Anyone know anything about this type of paint job ? What is it called ? What's it cost. Where do you go to get it ?

Miller's Birthday Today

Today would have been Miller's 26th B'Day. Here are some birthday photos from his 11th and his 15th birthday and a few others. In one he has on some of his Grandaddy's vintage Lily Pulitzer pants. In another he was so proud of the size of the catfish that he caught that he was holding the cat for size comparison. He only bleached his hair once. He walked into the room with the cat and put it on his head, but it didn't work out as planned and I always thought it was one of the funniest photos of him I ever took. Miller was the most brilliant, funny, charming, thoughtful, & loving person I have ever known. He was finishing up Grad School and had every pilot's certification possible for his age when he died. There is no telling what he would be doing today had he lived. We all miss him so.
