Gulf Shores Photos
Well, I finally got access to Gulf Shores today, took some pictures and got them added to http://www.gulf-shores-alabama.net
Most all swimming pools on the beach are full of sand, as in totally FULL.....makes one feel real special, like walking on water to go across them on foot. But full of sand is way better than destroyed.
The city has BIG equipment out there working like crazy--got to MOVE THAT SAND--The word I have gotten is that Shrimp Festival IS gonna happen as scheduled Oct 13-16 and the public beach area was still under construction for Ivan repairs.
and these guys LOVE to get their picture taken, they grin and wave and never ever run me off, no matter how close those beep-beep-beeps are.
I have been getting emails LIKE CRAZY from adoring fans all over the country wondering how DAC-ART and the 'hurricane proof house' did in Katrina.
Sooooooooo, I must add some photos of the house to the DAC-ART site asap, or I will get nothing done for answering fan mail, errrr....emails. I even got a flower-y notecard in the mail today from a fan in Calif. No email included, she wants a return phone call. And can you believe it--we have mail service already.
The electricity came on today at the lagoon house, so now I can get the computer that i use for the house website hooked up and give these people some info.
We can pick up New Orleans radio here, been listening a lot while working outside....---and whoa buddy, let me tell you, it is often a different story than what is said on national televison. Not better or worse, just different...always remember, tv is not to be believed. Don't think that just cause you heard it on tv that it is true....but you know that...right ????? And don't believe everything you hear on radio either !!!!
One issue they are facing over there is the fact that a large portion of the population is used to having drugs on a regular basis. Now this is interrupted. There are others who drink every day. No booze. Expect problems. With gun stores looted, and armed, crazed idiots running about it has got to be a living hell.
It amazes me that on New Orleans talk radio, a large percentage of the callers have a point of reference that it is someone else's responsibility to take care of them or fix their problems. Generally they expect some government agency to be their parent.
The loss of all the MS Gulf Coast casino hotels and other businesses that employ so many service people like maids, janitors, bellmen, etc...is probably going to mean that some of these people drift north into B'ham, Jackson, Memphis, Nashville seeking work. I doubt if these cities need this type of infux. I'd guess that the repercussions of this hurricane are going to be very far reaching.
